The recent freeze and thaw cycle in Edmonton is making for some icy, dangerous sidewalks and almost 300 reported injuries just this past weekend, including slips on the ice. The City is cracking down on residents who don’t do their part and keep their sidewalks clear. In the first two weeks of January 2016, the City issued over 2,400 warnings and 590 tickets (at $100 each), and the last half of January was so busy the numbers aren’t in yet.
If you ignore the $100 ticket, an arrest warrant may be issued, or a private contractor may be hired to clear your sidewalk, with the costs added to your property tax.
Two years ago an Edmonton woman died after falling on an icy sidewalk, and doctors say the fall was a factor in her death.
