Royal Caribbean’s Anthem of the Seas was forced to return to port in New Jersey on Monday, rather than continuing to Florida, after trying to outrun a storm with high winds and nine metre waves. The 4,500 passengers were told to remain safely inside their cabins – and help themselves to the mini bars free of charge – for hours as the 1,600 crew worked to secure the ship. Four people were injured and all guests will receive a full refund on the cruise, which departed Saturday on what was to have been a seven-night vacation. The cruise ship had contacted the Coast Guard on Sunday to make them aware of the situation, and to let them know that the ship was under control and not in distress.
