Last night’s season (and series) finale of American Idol was packed with performances from dozens of former contestants and winners, special guests including original hosts Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul; an introduction by U.S. President Barack Obama; some iffy appearances (remember this guy?), performances by current hosts Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr., and capped with the win by Trent Harmon, with La’Porsha Renae the runner-up, both of whom have been signed to recording contracts.
The performances by past contestants were flashy, varied and a trip down memory lane for fans – but Kelly Clarkson stole the show, and she wasn’t even there. The winner of Season One was unable to attend due to her late-stage pregnancy, but had pre-taped a segment featuring a medley of her hits, and it was amazing:
