Would you pay $40 so you could sit with your two-year old child on a flight? Caley and Matt Hartney had to on a Vancouver-Toronto flight so that they could sit with toddler Charlotte. Air Canada’s ‘Tango’ policy states that children between the ages of two to eight years will be guaranteed a seat in the same cabin as their parents, but not beside them. A $40 fee will guarantee a specific seat – something that Caley found out when she called Air Canada customer service because she found the online ticketing system confusing. Hartney was told the only protest available to her was to write to the airline’s president, which she has done.
The Hartneys paid the fee for the two adult seats, but refused to add the $40 to their daughter’s already full-fare ticket, as airline policy states that a child must be added to a parent’s ticket.
