From Wednesday to Friday last week, the back parking lot at Fresh Radio/Corus was a collection centre for Edmonton residents donating to the Edmonton Food Bank and Canadian Red Cross for the Fort McMurray evacuees. NINE semi trailers (courtesy Rosenau Transport) were filled with baby food, diapers, non-perishable food and water, and cash was collected for the Canadian Red Cross (which will be matched by the provincial and federal governments). Dani & Jay broadcast their morning show on site. The final totals are in:
95,699 kg or 210,980 lbs of food, water and toiletries were collected for Edmonton’s Food Bank to be distributed throughout Alberta for those in need following this disaster.
Cheques/gift cards to Edmonton’s Food Bank: $1,785
Cash & Cheques to the Canadian Red Cross: $17,702.75
Matched by Prov & Fed gov’t that is: $53,111.25
Various Gift Cards we received will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House who will disperse to evacuees: $1,170
We also delivered over 9 pallets of new toiletries, new socks, new underwear, new pillows & bedding etc. to the Edmonton Emergency Relief Services Society.
Thanks to Rosenau Transport Ltd and others that supplied trailers, to the Canadian Armed Forces and countless volunteers that helped along the way, to Global Edmonton for their wonderful coverage, and to all staff that worked tirelessly to make this happen.
