An app showing high-level satellite imagery of Fort McMurray is now available from the Alberta government. In some cases residents may be able to see their neighbourhood and possibly even whether their own houses are still standing. Residents are warned that the images may be traumatic, and caution that structures that appear to be standing may not necessarily be undamaged. Click here to download.
Premier Rachel Notley said today that the air quality in the Fort Mac area is above an extreme level of health risk – on a scale of one to ten (ten being ‘extreme’) this morning the Fort Mac rating was thirty eight, and expected to worsen overnight. Fire crews continue to battle the fire outside the city, particularly north and west of the city, and hot spots inside the city are still a danger to flare up due windy conditions.
Updates on those and other issues will be given tonite at another Fort McMurray telephone town hall. Displaced residents who have registered with the Red Cross should receive a phone call at 7pm to participate – more here.
