One of my best friends is a dog sledder whose team is based in Fort McMurray. Her name is Christina Traverse and the team is MUSH MCMURRAY.
I just love this face!
Christina is an amazing athlete who has competed in the Yukon Quest, the Canadian Challenge, and more. Learn more about Mush McMurray here.
Mush McMurray has had quite a challenging few weeks. First they were evacuated from their home and were set up on the yard outside MacDonald Island Park in downtown Fort McMurray for a few days. When the wildfire got too close, they fled the city to stay with family in Devon, Alberta This is their evacuation story:
One of Christina’s major concerns in fleeing her community was her pregnant sled dog, Mama.
It has been two weeks since the evacuation and Mama has finally felt ready to give birth. Mush McMurray is pleased to announce that six healthy puppies were born today.
Doesnt she look proud? Awww!
All six puppies have been given names inspired by the Alberta wildfire. Their names are Haze, Ember, Ash, Blaze and Emily. Emily is named after the 15 year old girl who lost her life on highway 881 fleeing Fort McMurray following the evacuation. Emily was a close family friend and Mush McMurray is pleased to be able to honor her in this way.
And this little guy is named DARBY ALLEN!
