I grew up watching Mike Holmes, on his show Holmes on Homes. It takes a very special man to make house renovations exciting for a teenage girl, but he pulled it off. He’s awesome to watch, but I especially love the way that he treated people, had peoples best interest at heart and he actually really cares about people. Plus, lets be honest, he is easy on the eyes.
Needless to say, I’ve been a Mike Holmes fan ever since.
Which is why it is especially cool to see that this man and his great big heart started reaching out to the people of Fort McMurray immediately after the evacuation. 80,000 people were evacuated from Fort McMurray on May 3rd. The next day, Mike posted this sweet message on his facebook account:
Oh, and his Twitter! Double Whammy!
For those who don’t know, I lived in Fort McMurray from 2012-2015 and it is a very special place full of amazing people. It’s no surprise someone like Mike would want to help out this fantastic city!
A week and a half after the evac, he posts this:
Oh and did I mention, during the evacuation Mike also shared the information booklet created by The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo and the Alberta Government regarding reentry. This was crucial information that residents of Fort McMurray NEEDED to be aware of. Getting the info out was very important, and he helped out big time by sharing it!
Wow. It’s one thing to post the link to spread awareness and hopefully inspire people to donate to the Red Cross for the Fort McMurray Wildfire Relief Fund….but to actually suggest he would go to the Oilsands city to help out in person…that’s an incredible gesture. Is he actually going to do it? His posts from yesterday certainly suggest it!!!
His Twitter page reflects his intentions as well:
This is amazing! Thanks so much to Mike Holmes for helping the wonderful people of Fort McMurray, and maybe this huge act of kindness and generosity will inspire others to follow suit. Learn more here.
Season two of Mike’s new show, Home Free, premiered today on Fox. Check it out!
