Sept. 28th is the one-year anniversary of six year-old SpiderMable saving the city of Edmonton, and Oilers’ captain Andrew Ference, from the villain Mysterio. While the bad guy was eventually captured by the plucky Mable Tooke (the name she uses when not fighting crime), the young leukemia survivor did have quite a bit of help; Mayor Don Iveson, EPS and even Spider-Man himself were part of the day organized by the Children’s Wish Foundation.
Edmonton filmmaker Kelly Wolfert, a producer at Leven Creative, has written and will direct and produce a documentary on the day that a whole city came together to grant a little girl’s wish. The production company followed SpiderMable on her big day, and has since followed her at promotional events and fundraisers. A crowdfunding page will launch on Sept. 22nd to help with production costs for the documentary, which is also planned to be submitted to several film festivals.
