The Govt. of Alberta’s Transportation department has deleted yesterday’s tweet intended to promote pedestrian safety.
The drawing depicted a potential collision between a pedestrian distracted by a cellphone and headphones, with the driver giving a ‘thumbs up’, and read “Pls pay attention when crossing the street – remove headphones & put away cellphones or other electronic devices
The post resulted in a backlash on social media, with some accusing the ad of ‘pedestrian shaming’ and pointing out the driver’s requirement to yield in a crosswalk. The tweet was deleted Tuesday morning.
