If you’re like me, you like to save money where you can. Especially on a Hallmark Holiday like Valentines Day.
Here are 6 ways you can save your money, while proving to that special someone that you ADORE the heck out of them!
1) Pick a DIFFERENT day to deliver the flowers!
Don’t want to spend a fortune on some orchids? Get them delivered a day or two BEFORE Valentines day. This could be the difference between spending $50 to $100. Or on the flipside, wait a day or two after Feb 14th..
2) Take Her (or him!) on a Romantic walk!
Tomorrow (Feb 14th) is going to be 10 degrees. It’s going to be a warm night too, an inexpensive date would be a walk along the ledge, followed by a short picnic perhaps? It costs nothing to walk the ledge, or Whyte ave or Jasper Ave. If you have a couple extra bucks to spare, maybe buy a Hot Chocolate or Latte after! She/He may have a favourite spot in Edmonton watch the Sun set and that can often times be just as nice as an expensive dinner out! (One up this by packing skates and going to the Silver Skate Festival)
3) Dinner and a movie doesn’t have to be expensive!
Have a Costco membership? Don’t have much time to spare? A movie can take up about 3 hours of time, and that includes a short meal before hand. Hire a sitter ($50), go to Costco, have a tasty hot dog and pop (1.50), then buy the Cineplex popcorn and movie ticket combo (Under $30). You may think the Costco hot dog thing is ‘cheap’ but it can be quite romantic if you pack a candle and don’t mind looking a little goofy.
4) Stay in, cook dinner, and watch a movie that SHE loves!
This is a no brainer, turn your house into a restaurant! Wine and dine your loved one as if they are at their own special table in a fancy restaurant! Put a table cloth down, break out the fine china (if you have any) light up a couple candles, buy some wine and you’ve got yourself a bonified elite restaurant experience! Follow that up with a nice dessert and put on Valentines Day!
5) Celebrate a BELATED Valentines day
More and more couples are doing this, in fact I know one couple who celebrates Valentines day on George Washington’s Birthday! (Feb 22). Candy, Chocolates, Flowers and Dinner is much less expensive!
6) Make a SPECIAL homemade bouquet!
Valentines DIY is a surefire winner. You can spend all the money in the world but what is more valuable than that? Time!
