What are the chances that Facebook live would capture video of a truck falling through the ice on Lake Winnipeg? Whatever the odds, these two people are lucky to be alive after this happened on Tuesday – and the whole thing was captured on video.
Ko’ona Cochrane was a passenger in a truck travelling across frozen Lake Winnipeg when the ice below their vehicle broke and they fell, still inside the truck, into the chilling water. Manitoba RCMP were on scene minutes later and both were rescued without injury.
The truck, however, didn’t do so well. It’s still below the ice.
The Manitoba Winter Roads network crosses lakes, rivers and muskeg that freeze over in the winter. They are measured and marked with warning signs, but not in the area where this truck fell through the ice, because it’s not considered an ice crossing.
