Just south of a beach where a woman was bitten by a shark two weeks ago, paddleboarders and swimmers at Dana Point Beach got a bit of a shock on Wednesday.
An Orange Country Sheriff’s Dept. chopper was flying overhead, and had a clear view of several Great White sharks in the water, some as close as the surfline.
Not this kind of shark:
Swimmers heard the chopper’s loudspeaker announce “You are paddleboarding next to approximately 15 great white sharks. They are advising you exit the water in a calm manner. The sharks are as close as the surfline.”
At 3:45 in the video we hear the first announcement to the swimmers:
Leeanne Ericson, bitten while swimming at a nearby beach last month, remains in critical condition. After two operations, it’s unclear whether the single mother of three will be able to walk again, and her family has started a GoFundMe page.
