A video is rapidly spreading of a woman demanding to see ‘a white doctor who speaks English‘ at a walk-in clinic west of Toronto.
At the Rapid Access to Medical Specialists clinic in Mississauga on Sunday, she complained “There was a doctor that was not white, that did not help my kid. I would like to see a white doctor. You’re telling me there’s not one white doctor in this whole entire building? Oh my God. What type of horrible country do I live in?” the woman continued. “There’s nobody that’s Canadian? Nobody that was born here?”
Bystanders were initially speechless, then several confronted her. One young woman said “Your child clearly has more issues with you being his mother than him needing to see a doctor. You are extremely rude and racist.”
The unidentified woman was apparently seeking treatment for her son’s chest pains. It’s not clear whether her son received treatment at that clinic or not, and the clinic did not comment on the incident.
The video was filmed by Hitesh Bhardwaj, an immigrant to Canada five years ago, who said that the incident troubled him for the rest of the day.
“It was a mixed feeling of being angry and being frustrated,” he said.
