The Emoji movie opened last night, and currently has a rating on rotten tomatoes at 0%
ZERO PERCENT?!? (EDIT, It’s been hovering between zero and 3% all day)
And in one of the harshest reviews I’ve ever read..
The New York Post’s Johnny Oleksinski writes that the making of the film signalled, of all things, the apocalypse: “Hear that? It’s the end of the world.”
My personal opinion on this film is that it looks like a cross between Inside Out , and The Lego Movie. I’ve been saying this since the beginning though, a movie about Emoji’s just seems like it’s trying way too hard. Which is really too bad because I like everyone in the cast, but for real. EMOJIS?!?
The Wrap’s Alonso Duralde, calls the film “a soul-crushing disaster because it lacks humour, wit, ideas, visual style, compelling performances, a point of view or any other distinguishing characteristic that would make it anything but a complete waste of your time, not to mention that of the diligent animators who brought this catastrophe into being.”
“This movie’s ‘believe in yourself’ message is borne out, in a perverse way, by the very fact that it even exists. And yet the whole thing remains nakedly idiotic,” writes the New York Times’ Glenn Kenny.
Here’s the thing, I STILL want to see it. I love movies so bad that they’re good.
Check out the trailer, and decide for yourself if it’s worth seeing.
