The studio that gave you A Nightmare on Elm Street & The Conjuring has appeared to hit another home run this weekend. Stephen King’s “It” Is set to be the biggest opening day for a Horror Movie and Rated R film. It’s opening day was projected at $51 Million and will smash Deadpools record at $47.3 Million set last February. Only time will tell if this is going to be a cult classic, but I’m here to tell you that it will achieve cult status in no time.
For those unfamiliar with the story it’s very simple. The Town of Derry is being terrorized by an unknown being which is taking away children. IT disguises itself as Pennywise the clown, one of the creepiest, most vile movie villains I have ever seen on the silver screen. Seriously after seeing this movie I can never unsee what I have seen.
Throughout the movie I heard screams from movie goers – and some even walked out. This movie isn’t for those who are afraid of a little blood and a lot of swearing. With that being said however, the movie had a lot of heart, and humour which I found absent in the original TV mini series. The best way to describe this movie is to say “Stranger Things meets Nightmare on Elm street”. It will scare you, and make you laugh within seconds. I give it a 4.5 out of 5, the only reason it loses half a point is I felt at times, it was trying to be too nostalgic to the 80’s.
